The desired cosmetic result of a procedure is in the centre of the whole clinic staff’s effort. The confidential cooperation of the medical specialists for plastic and aesthetic surgery and anaesthesia thereby plays an important role. The KÖ-KLINIK consciously goes without anaesthesits who will only be requested in individual cases, in actual fact, a team of six medical specialists for anaesthesia lead by Dr. Med. Udo Wandinger is available for you. To us, the personal consultation and confidential meeting with ‘your’ anaesthetist are self-evident.We would be happy to now partly explain the tasks and work of the anaesthetic department to you:
For many operations the anaesthetic must be carried out by a medical specialist. Anaesthetics however are only part of the anaesthetist’s supervision. Your anaesthetist will not only take care of your ‘calm and pleasant sleep’. His further tasks are:
Your operating surgeon will already know in your first consultation whether you will be in need of an for anaesthesia specialist’s participation before your planned procedure.
Before the procedure
You will receive information on possibly necessary anaesthetics already during the first consultation with your operating physician. You will therefore be handed a yellow questionnaire which you should please read and complete carefully. Should you already have any questions on the necessary anaesthetic procedure, a medical specialist for for anaesthesia will be available for you at any time. Please do not leave any room for fears or obscurities: your anaesthesist will be available for a personal consultation at any time.
Even if you did not want to speak to your anaesthetist before the planned procedure, you will be given thorough information on anaesthetics on the day of the operation in any case. A physical examination will be thereby completed and your anaesthetist will evaluate all present previous examinations. Subsequently, he will choose the best anaesthetic procedure for you. Please ask us all the questions you are interested in.
In some cases it might be necessary to arrange an examination and consultation date with your anaesthetist some time before the planned procedure. This is especially necessary if you have a medical history. You operating surgeon will inform you early enough in this respect. Please let us know on time if you are taking any medication.
After all preparations have been completed for your procedure, you will be picked up by an examined nurse and accompanied to the operation room. You will not be left alone at any time. The only ‘inconvenience’ in the operation room may be the application of a vein tube which is too small. (Normally this is less painful than the normal taking of a blood sample) If you wish to listen to background music for going to sleep, please let us know.
During the procedure
We will be happy to answer any questions that might come to your mind now about the surely unfamiliar surrounding. While you will be sleeping relaxedly at a later point, your anaesthetist will permanently supervise and control all important vital functions. The most modern supervision and anaesthesia technology is available to us for this purpose:
Measuring brain waves during an operation is an absolutely innovative procedure for evaluating the depths of anaesthetic. Your depths of sleep can be exactly controlled by the competent application of this completely painless method without any side effects. The amount of the necessary anaesthetic is reduced to the absolute minimum without the danger of early awakening. We would be happy to also explain this innovative method to you in a personal consultation. The majority of anaesthetists in the USA is already working with this procedure. In Germany, the KÖ-KLINIK is one of the few institutions that carry out a routine measuring of brain waves.
After the procedure
You will be awake again directly after the completion of the operation. A slight temporary drowsiness is totally normal. Before you will be accompanied to your actual room, there will be a routine supervision in the awakening area. We will hereby control all important vital functions every 30 minutes and will arrange for possibly necessary pain medication.
Since every patient has a different perception of pain, we will determine the medication individually for you and will no longer be satisfied with the ‘standard provision’. Your anaesthetist will also visit you later on in your patient’s room to get an idea of your further process and your needs.
Soon after your procedure you will be able to eat and drink as ususal. Self-evidently you will also be able to welcome visiting relatives directly after the procedures.
Should you have any further questions on the anaesthetic support in our clinic, we will be looking forward to a personal conversation with you. Please feel free to call us or to also send us an email.
With best regards
Your KÖ-KLINIK
